Easy Company
The Easy company was the 5th company of the 506 {{E}} regiment of infantry parachutist of the 101e American airborne division during the Second world war on the European face.
It was immortalisée in the book of Stephen Ambrose Brothers in arms , which was adapted in Televised series (10 approximately one hour episodes) produced Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks.
There were other companies “E” but because of the book and the mini-series this one is most famous.
Company took part in the airborne operations on the Normandy, in the sector of Holy-Mother-Church, in the night of the 5 with the June 6th 1944 at the time of the unloading. The unit was illustrated by the catch of German guns ramming Utah Beach, in the morning of June 6th and the catch of Carentan, a few days later, thus making it possible large landing troops to penetrate the earths.
It was redeployed, like all the 101e airborne, at the time of the Opération Market Garden with the Netherlands in the sector of Eindhoven, under command of Montgomery. This operation consisted in taking the bridges spanning the the Rhine in order to make penetrate divisions armor-plated allied in the the Ruhr, industrial heart of Germany and this with an aim of putting an end to the war around Christmas 1944. The operation was a failure.
It was also sent in reinforcement, (whereas division was in reserve with Mourmelon-the-Large around Rheims) always with the remainder of the 101e airborne on December 17th, 1944 at the evening, to hold Bastogne at the time of the Bataille of the Ardennes where the unit, under the command of the general sergeant MacAuliffe (interim of the general Taylor, temporarily absent) was completely encircled and had to undergo three days of hard combat against an enemy higher of number and out of equipment (division Panzer S) from December 20th to 22nd, as well as many losses, until the arrival of the tanks of the general Patton. It was also deployed in Bavaria and in particular with Berchtesgaden, the " nest of aigle" of Hitler.
These men of elite, trained to progress in territories unknown and accustomed to operate encircled face a determined enemy, have like single support only their comrades, their “brothers in arms”.
“Of the ordinary men, an extraordinary history”. Such is the sentence which summarizes best than are the veterans of Easy Company and what they lived on the faces of Europe between 1944 and 1945.
