East coast
The rap East Coast corresponds to a mobility of the American Rap born with New York. Musicalement, the its often darker, is inflencé more by the Jazz and the Soul, therefore less funky that its counterpart West Coast .
More than one mobility, it is especially about a style of rap which, at the musical level, is characterized by an omnipresent use of samples and a sound more organic than that of the Rap West Coast. It is characterized by a “dirty” side very coming from many the samples recovered on old discs of Funk and Soul. In fact, the rap East Coast is much mélodieux than the rap West Coast. The rap " East Coast" if it is less funky and darker than its counterpart, therefore is not worked less of it and less rich person quite to the contrary. Its birthplace: New York, is the person in charge. True temple of the musical culture, where all the kinds mix and are represented, New York made it possible the Hip-Hop culture to integrate a broad part of the American landscape musical. And if the style seems sometimes too sober, the architecture of this rap without any doubt is very worked and very complex. This musical architecture often comprises one or more samples of old American discs, fixed to perfection on the happy one. These samples is often drawn from pieces which are already emergency, of melancholy; thus we have a true symbiosis between the instrumental one, the lyrics and the flow of the rappor.
The rap East Coast, as well as the rap West Coast with G-Funk or the rap Dirty South with the Crunk also has under varieties; the Jazz rap, although it also developed on the west coast with The Pharcyde clearly and out of the United States, owing to the fact that its sonorities, is generally regarded as one of them.
The general rate/rhythm is often chaotic and syncopated, this style translates the urgency of the expression: pieces like " Warm it up Kane" of Big Daddy Kane or " Critical Breakdown" of Kool Keith can be used as reference as illustrations of this rate under pressure. Nevertheless, this urgent and stressed style tends to disappear today, that with the profit of a production calmer and more posed.
On the level of the text and attitude, the rap East Coast more often speaks about completely delirious subjects and social problems. The rappeurs East Coast have often more humor and direction of the autodérision. (Ol' Dirty Bastard is an good example). Today, the scene of the rap East Coast is represented by rappeurs such as Busta Rhymes, Method Man, Jadakiss, Nas, Jay-Z, Spliff Starr, Redman, RZA, GZA, DMX,… The rappeurs having marked this kind are the Notorious B.I.G., the WU Tang Clan, Puff Daddy and Nas.
A tasty parody of this kind was initiated with the puppet Rap Cat.
