East Berlin was the name given to the oriental party of Berlin between 1949 and 1990. It was the Soviet part sector of Berlin which had been created in 1945. The American sectors , British and French became West Berlin, an enclave of the FRG in GDR.

East Berlin was the Capitale of the German Democratic republic. August 31st 1961 with the November 9th 1989, it was separated from West Berlin by the Berlin Wall. The Easts Germany called East Berlin “Berlin” or sometimes, “Berlin, capital of GDR” ( Berlin, Hauptstadt DER GDR ).

The October 3rd 1990, FRG and GDR were reunified, putting an end to the existence of East Berlin.
