The May 3rd 2006, a seism of 8,1 degrees on the open scales of Richter struck the islands Tonga, and an alarm with the Tsunami was launched for part of the Southern Pacific before being raised a little later.

Alarm with the tsunami had been launched for the Tonga, the islands Fiji, the New Zealand and Hawaii.

According to the American geological Institute (USGS), the seism occurred at 3 p.m. 26 GMT to 155 km in the south of the island Neiafu de Tonga and to 2.145 km in the North-East of Auckland in New Zealand, its epicentre was localized with 16.100 meters of depth. The earthquake lasted more than 30 seconds. It is about the strongest jolt felt in addition to 20 years.

The islands Fiji indicated that no tsunami had been announced.
