Earthenware hispano-Moorish

The European Faïence finds its origins in the Islamic world. Earthenware Hispano-Moorish appeared at the time of the period known as Al-Andalus of the occupation by the Moors of Spain.

  • Andalusian Origin:

The famous " vases of the Alhambra " , dated between 1380 and 1400, illustrate the birth of earthenware in Europe.
  • Transmission by the Mudéjars:

Although there exists in Spain various forms of earthenware (PATERNA in XIVe and VALENCE at the beginning of the 15th century), it is the " earthenware lustrée" who will become most famous.

The great centers are Malaga and Manises .

  • Century of Gold:

The first parts raise purely Arab reasons. End of the 14th century until the 18th century, the decoration undergoes a slow evolution, borrowing subjects from the Gothic art or the Christian symbolic system. Many parts of prestige are armoriées, proof of its success near the great European nobility.
