Ear Blechnum

The blechnum out of ear ( Blechnum spicant ) is a Fougère of the family of the Blechnaceae.

Other common nouns: Ear Blechne, pectinate Fern, ear Fern.

Description

The ear blechnum is a Fougère in tuft (=rosette). The sling S have a size varying from 20 to 70 cm. They are deeply divided into segments or Foliole S to the vein centrale.

The sling S are of two types:

  • some are sterile: they are persistent, they present a very short Pétiole and broad Foliole S close relations from/to each other, almost welded at their base.
  • of others is fertile: they are present only during the summer and they are fewer than the preceding ones. These sling S fertile has a length Pétiole and very narrow Foliole S, isolated from/to each other. The angle that form the segments and the rachis (90°) like that formed by the teeth of a comb, gives the name to this Fougère.

The linear sore S carried by the lower face of the fertile sling S, form two very brought closer parallel lines.

  • Period of sporulation: June at September.

  • Mode of dissemination: anémochore.

Medium

The ear blechnum generally lives in Atlantic climate of plain or mountainous area in fresh and wet small valleys, always on permeable, fresh and acid soils. This Fougère meets primarily in forests, edges and edges of ways.
  • standard Habitat: external hems acidophiles médioeuropéens, centroeuropéens, planitiaires-collinéens, mésohygrophiles.

  • Surface of distribution: holarctic.

Geographical distribution

The ear blechnum is rather common in most of France. It however is protected in all south-east from France, the Center and Island-of-Frande.
