ELIZA
ELIZA is famous a Computer program writes by Joseph Weizenbaum, which simulated a Psychothérapeute rogérien by reformulating the majority of the assertions of the “patient” in questions, and posing to him.
He functioned by simple Pattern recognition and substitution of the key words in the produced sentences. However, it was so convincing that there are many anecdotes in connection with people who émotionnellement became increasingly dependant on their relation with ELIZA. It was due to the human tendency natural to attach to the words un/des direction that the computer could not there have put.
This became an important motivation for J. Weizenbaum to write its book Computer Power and Human Reason. From Judgment to Calculation , in which he explains the limits of the computers, as he wanted to return clearly in the spirit of people who the anthropomorphic sight of the computers is a reduction of the human being.
Weizenbaum insists in its book on the fact that even if Eliza written I include/understand… as protocol of courtesy programmed towards the interlocutor, it obviously acts of an abusive declaration : Eliza does not include/understand actually anything the whole of what is transmitted to him.
