Edward James Delahanty (October 30th 1867 - July 2nd 1903) was a player of American Baseball in the major Ligues of baseball.
Its Moyenne with the stick is classified 3rd by the major League of baseball since the beginnings of the major Leagues. Its career started slightly, striking only 0,228. Its average increased to 0,296 the following year. 1893 was its first notable season, with an average of 0,368 with 19 Coups of circuit. In 1894 and 1895 it struck an average with the top of 0,400, thus gaining the title of the champion of the average to the stick in 1895. In 1896 he became the second player having struck 4 blows of circuit in only one part. These 4 circuits were blows of circuits on striking interior - i.e. it struck the ball concerned and touched with the four goals itself, without striking the ball with the top of the fence.
In 1897 it joined the Senators of Washington in the American Ligue and struck 0,376 to gain its second title of the champion of the average to the stick. He is currently the only player to have gained it in the National league and the American League.
Delahanty died before taking its retirement. In 1903 It was in a train with the Chutes the Niagara when it was expelled by the controller, because drunk and disturbing. It was crossing a bridge when it fell (or jumped?). He thus died at the 35 years age, with 2596 sure Coups and an average of 0,346, classified 3rd by the major League of baseball after Rogers Hornsby and Ty Cobb. He was elected with the Temple of re-elected baseball in 1945.
