ED Baird , born the May 17th 1958 with St Petersburg in Florida, is a American sailor

Biography

World champion with eight recoveries, it took part in campaigns of the Coupe of America in 1995 where it evolves/moves as a cox of the boat B, giving the counterpart to Russell Coutts which brought back the Cut to Auckland.

For the following edition, in bay of Auckland, he is the cox of an American challenge Young America . However during the 2nd Robin round, the hull of USA-53 breaks and the boat is ready to sink. The challenge must then use in catastrophe its second boat USA-58, which was to make its beginnings in competition only at the time of the following turn. This event marks the spirits of the members of the challenge and this one is not qualified for the following turn.

It does not take part directly in the edition of 2003, occupying the post of substitute within the TEAM carried out by Dennis Conner. It also occupies during this competition a role of commentator for New Zealand television.

For the edition 2007, it is recruited by the “Defender”, the Swiss challenge Alinghi, to occupy the post of cox. The Swiss challenge has two other candidates at the station, Peter Holmberg and Jochen Schuemann.

He is finally preferred with Peter Holmberg, more attacker, because of his reserve and his smoothness. To with dimensions of Brad Butterworth, the New Zealand skipper, it leads its boat to the victory by 5 regattas with 2, although it is generally dominated by its competitor born-zélandais Dean Barker at the time of the starting phases.
