EADS Astrium

EADS Astrium is a subsidiary company of the group EADS (European Aeronautic Defense and Space company), specialized in the civil and military space systems, present in France, Germany, Great Britain, with the Netherlands and in Spain.

It is the first European space company and the third world one.

EADS Astrium holds directly or indirectly 28,6% of Arianespace, 35% of Starsem and 51% of Eurockot.

Companies

EADS Astrium gathers its activities within three companies:
  • EADS Astrium Services, develops services by satellites in the field of telecommunications and navigation and took part in the program Galileo. Its subsidiary company, Paradigm Secure Ltd Communications, will provide departments of communication made safe to the Ministry for British defense thanks to the satellites Skynet 5.

February 1st 2005, EADS SPACE announces the acquisition of Dutch Space, which was already an important supplier of EADS SPACE Transportation.

Two specialized subsidiaries supplement EADS Astrium:
  • EADS Sodern, specialized in the optical instruments and space equipment (sensors of Ground, star sights). EADS Sodern is held to 90% by EADS

  • CILAS, specialized in the lasers. CILAS is held to 63% by EADS.

EADS Astrium also offers services of launching through participations in Arianespace (launcher ARIANE 5), Starsem (launcher Soyuz) and Eurockot (launcher Rockot), as well as services of Telecommunication S and of observation of the Earth by satellite via subsidiary companies held at 100% such as Infoterra, or joint ventures like Spot Image.

Moreover, EADS Astrium Space Transportation is constituting with Finmeccanica a joint undertaking of development of the future launchers European, based in Turin, and called NGL Co.

Project of space tourism

EADS Astrium announced its project of space Tourisme during one evening entitled " Did you already dream to bring you closer to stars…? " organized the June 13rd 2007 in Paris. The Australian designer Marc Newson takes part in the project.
