The danzón is a Musical genre created with Matanzas (Cuba) towards 1880 by the musician Miguel Failde. It is a form of Contradanza - Habanera, more spontaneous and on which the musicians improvise.

Initially played by the tipicas , orchestras including wind instruments, coppers, cords, Guiro and drinking cups, those will be replaced in the Années 1920 by the Charanga S , orchestras including Piano, Violon S, Violoncelle S, Guiro, Clarinette, Flûte, Contrebasse and drinking cups).

In 1910, the director of orchestra Jose Urfé composes Bombín de Barreto , a danzón in which it incorporates new a rate/rhythm ( nuevo rítmo ) derived from the His Cuban , who will be used as a basis for the Mambo in 1937.

The danzónete introduced into the danzón a sung part.

Large type-setters - George Gershwin, Leonard Bernstein - integrated the danzón in their works.
