A genealogist is a person whose principal activity is the Généalogie. In the professional genealogists, one distinguishes two categories:

  • the successional which seek the heirs to a person died without known family. They work either at the request of a notary, or of their own authority to seek the heirs to an estate without a claimant or not (in the case or nobody knows where are the heirs). They make sign contracts of revelation, with the help of a percentage of the succession, and are paid only with the final payment of the succession by the notary.
  • the family which make genealogical and/or historical research for private customers. They intervene within the framework of a contract of research and are remunerated directly by the customer.
