Dwight Filley Davis (July 5th 1879 - November 28th 1945) is a tennis player and American politician. It is especially known to be the creator of the Coupe Davis.
Born with Saint Louis, Missouri. He is finalist into simple of Open U.S. in 1898. In double in the same tournament with its fellow-member Holcombe Ward it gains three years of continuation (1899 - 1901). Davis and Ward are also finalist of the tournament of Wimbledon in 1901.
In 1900, Davis created an international annual competition putting at the catches the the United States and the Great Britain, known under the name of International Lawn Tennis Challenge , she was later baptized Coupe Davis in her honor. He is member of the victorious American team in 1900 and 1902.
After its sporting career it starts a political career, during the presidency of Calvin Coolidge he becomes assistant Secretary of State to the War (1923 - 25) then Secretary of State to the War (1925 - 29) and General governor of Philippines (1929 - 32). He dies in Washington in 1945.
