Durocassium
Durocassium corresponds to the current town of Dreux
Dreux was the capital of the Gallic tribe of the Durocasse S. But, contrary to a legend spread as from the romantic time at the 19th century and exploiting a whimsical etymology, Dreux is not the capital of the druids. Its topographic position, near to the city of the Parisii, with a crossroads of transportation routes, as well as the high hill which dominates it, met all the requirements for a military station. Also the Romans established there a fortress of the name of Castrum Drocas , succeeding old the Gallic oppidum. The importance taken by the of Durocassis at the time Gallo-Roman is attested as of the 4th century by its presence in the Table of Peutinger.
