Durfort is located on Sor upstream commune of Sorèze, old seat of an important abbey-school, and in periphery of the town of Revel.Durfort includes/understands many mills and, in the past, drew its activity from the energy produced by this river. Initially, these mills have allowed the production of textiles then for several centuries that of copper cauldrons.
Within this framework, the mills are called trip hammers, term derived from the term of hammer. The trip hammers consist of a camshaft which allows the forging of blocks of copper and thus the production of outlines of cauldrons. These cauldrons are then finished by a manual hammering which includes/understands decoration and surface treatment.
Today, an production activity of objects out of copper remains, but it is largely supplemented by the trade of primarily decorative objects, out of brass and tin.
