Dunsink observatory

The observatory Dunsink is a astronomical Observatoire near to Dublin in Ireland established towards 1875.

Dunsink is the first observatory in Ireland. It was built of 1783 to 1785 by first professor Andrews of astronomy of the Université of Dublin. This observatory is the seat of the Astronomer Royal for Ireland until in 1792, date of the disappearance of this title.

Its more famous director is William Rowan Hamilton although her designation caused a controversy, Hamilton not being an observer and has share the continuation lost his interest in Astronomie to turn to the Mathématiques.

Towards the end of the 20th century the enlarging of the town of Dublin included the observatory compromising the quality of the observations, the telescope, growing old, since is used only for nights open to the public.
