Dune (original title: Dune ) is a Romance of Science-fiction writes by Frank Herbert, published in the United States of America in 1965.
This article speaks only about the novel and not about its continuations: the Messiah of Dune , Children of Dune , the Emperor God of Dune , Heretics of Dune , the House of the Mothers . Let us specify that at the beginning, it was to be a trilogy ( Dune , the Messiah of Dune and Children of Dune ). This novel is sometimes cut out into two (Dune I and Dune II) or three parts respectively containing 22,15 and 11 chapters.
Summary
The history of the first volume takes as a starting point the life of Lawrence of Arabia. Frank Herbert obviously took as a starting point the arabo-Islamic culture.

Adaptations

In 1975, Alejandro Jodorowsky starts to work on an adaptation of the novel. The project was to see the participation of Orson Welles, with decorations of Salvador Dali, Moebius and H.R. Giger, and musics of Pink Floyd (which worked with pieces) and Magma. But the project turns short, the producers releasing Jodorowsky.
- Dune is the film adaptation of the novel by David Lynch left in 1984. No bond with the preliminary works of Jodorowsky.
- the Californian group Toto contributed to the sound screen of film.
- Two televisual series in 2000 and 2003: Dune and the Children of Dune
- In 1992, the French editor Cryo adapts the first novel concerned video named Dune (video game)
