Duncan Idaho

Duncan Idaho is a character fiction of the cycle of Dune, the only one with being present in each volume. One can thus regard it as the recurring hero of the cycle, because he plays a big role in each volume, without being in the foreground, because each volume has its hero who is clean for him.
In the first volume, Idaho, large warlike of Ginaz, is the fencing master of the Maison Atréides and a lieutenant of the Duc Leto Atréides, at the sides of Gurney Halleck and Thufir Hawat.
When the Atréides take possession of Arrakis, Idaho becomes the ambassador of the Duc near the Fremens, the people of the desert. Leto hopes to make the latter the essential allies in the war which seems inevitable against the emperor and the Harkonnens. Idaho will share the existence of Fremens, serving at the same time Stilgar, the Naib of the Sietch Tabr, and its Duke. It is killed by the Sardaukars by protecting the escape from Paul and Jessica.
In the second volume, the Messiah of Dune, Idaho reappears in the form of a Ghola, i.e. of a clone ressuscity of itself, name of Hayt. Indeed after its death in the preceding volume, the Sardaukars gave its body to the Tleilaxu which made a Ghola of it and sold it with the space Guilde. This one the offer with Paul like poisoned gift. Duncan finds its original memory at the end delivers it, after having succeeded with a test of will established in its intellect by the Tleilaxus.
This first Ghola Marie with the sister of Paul, Combined Atréides. Understanding that his wife, regent of the empire of the Atréides, is at the edge of the madness and partly had by the spirit of Vladimir Harkonnen, it ridicules the honor of Stilgar. Obliging this last to kill it and leave its neutrality against Combined. By this sacrifice, Duncan makes it possible to resolve the situation by engaging the forces Fremen in the political game of the empire.
During thousands of years, in Emperor-God of Dune, it reappears of very many times in the form of Ghola, at the request of the thousand-year-old Emperor Leto II, which carries out its genetic personal program. But each Ghola ends up even dying, some killed by Leto him. The Emperor God seeking to give birth to a particular behavior at these gholas. Its program will be finally a success, since Duncan ends up exceeding its condition of Ghola, with the assistance of Siona. Siona also object of the programme of selection of Leto II, and produced work of the engineers biologist of the planet Ix. Finally Siona and Duncan having obtained the gift of invisibility vis-a-vis the gift of prescience as Leto wished it, ends up killing to them creative; As this last had predicted it.
Its origin
In volumes before Dune writes by the son of Frank Herbert, one learns some more on youth of Duncan. This one is originating in Giedi Prime. At the 9 years age, he sees his assassinated parents, during plays, by Glossu Rabban. He is then used as prey for a human hunting, typical leisure of the Maison Harkonnen. Its rage enables him to survive, to flee on Caladan, planet cradle of the Atréides, and to enter to the service of the Duc Paulus Atréides, father of Leto. It is Leto which offers to him a formation of Fencing master on Ginaz.
