Dun-on-Auron

Dun-on-Auron is a common French, located in the department of the Cher and the area Center.

Geography

History

Of very old origin " Dunum" was a Gallic strengthened place. With the Moyen-âge the seigniory of Dun-le-Roy depended on the Viscount of Bourges. In 1101, the last Viscount, Eudes de Dun called Arpin, sold its Viscount with Philippe Ier to be able to leave in Croisade. Dun became the third royal city of the Berry, took the name of Dun-the-King and Philippe Auguste equipped it with important fortifications.

In 1182, close to Dun, the Capuchonnés massacre the Routier S which devastate the country.

Personalities related to the commune

Laure Coutan (1855-1914). Laure Coutan-Montorgueil, sculptor, were born with Dun-on-Auron. One owes him, in others, the bust of André Gill with the cemetery of the Lachaise father, in Paris.
