Duluth

The town of Duluth is the seat of the county of Saint Louis, in the Minnesota, the north of the the United States. It is in the west of the Higher Lac and is connected to the Atlantic Ocean thanks to the system of the Big lakes and to the Canal Érié. According to the census of 2000, the city counted: 86918 inhabitants, and: 184000 with its suburbs. It composes with Superior the urban area of Twin Ports, gathering: 275486 inhabitants. The current mayor of Duluth is called Herb Bergson, it achieved a first mandate.

The city is named in the honor of a French explorer Daniel Greysolon, sior of the Lute, first explorer of this area of the big lakes at the 17th century.

Geography

According to the Office of the census of the United States, the city has an total surface area of 226,2 km ², including 50 km ² of water, that is to say 22,11% of the total. It is the second city of Minnesota on the level of the surface, only exceeded by Hibbing.

Culture

The University off Minnesota Duluth is the regional campus of the Système of the University of Minnesota. The other institutions of higher education of the city and its area are The College off St Scholastica , the Lake Superior College , the Duluth Business University and the University off Wisconsin-Superior (in Superior).
