Duke of York

The duke of York is a Titer of nobility of the Pairie of Great Britain associated with the duchy of Yorkshire. Since the 15th century, it is generally allotted to the second wire of the British monarch. Since, the forever transmitted title. Either the carriers did not have a male descent, or they became King d' Angleterre.

This title is carried since 1986 by the prince Andrew, wire of the queen Elisabeth II of the United Kingdom.

The wife of the duke of York uses the title of courtesy of Duchesse of York.

The first creation (1384)

  • 1384 - 1402  : Edmund de Langley (1341 - 1402), Count de Cambridge  ;
  • 1402 - 1415  : Edouard of Norwich († 1415), Count de Rutland and of Cambridge, Duke of Albemarle. Wire of the precedent  ;
  • 1425 - 1460  : Richard Plantagenet (1411 - 1460), count de Rutland, Cambridge, March and Ulster. Cousin of the precedent  ;
  • 1460 - 1461  : Edouard Plantagenet (1442 - 1483), count de Cambridge, March and Ulster. Wire of the precedent. Edouard IV in became 1461.

The second creation (1474)

  • 1474 - 1483  : Richard de Shrewsbury (1473 - 1483), count then Duke of Norfolk.

The third creation (1494)

  • 1494 - 1509  : Henri Tudor (1491 - 1547). Henri VIII in 1509 became .

The fourth creation (1604)

  • 1604 - 1625  : Charles Stuart (1600 - 1649), Duke of Albany. Charles I {{er}} in 1625 became .

The fifth creation (1644)

  • 1644 - 1685  : Jacques Stuart (1633 - 1701), duke of Albany. Jacques II in 1685.
