Duke of Beaufort (England)
The title of duke of Beaufort was created in the Pairie of England by Charles II in 1682 for Henri Somerset, 3rd marquis de Worcester.
Beaufort refers to the castle of Beaufort in Anjou. It is the only title of still active duke who draws his name from a place apart from the British Isles.
They are downward by a male line of Jean of Ghent and Edouard III of England. The castle of Beaufort was a possession of Jean of Ghent.
The duke of Beaufort holds two titles subsidiaires : marquis de Worcester (created in 1642) and Count de Worcester (1514). The title of marquis de Worcester is used like titrates courtesy by the oldest son and heir designated to the duke. The title Count de Glamorgan is used by the oldest son of the designated heir. The son of this last uses the title Vicomte Grosmont. None of these the last two titles, however, seem to have been the subject of recent creation. All the subsidiary titles are in the Pairie of England.
For the French title, to see Duke of Beaufort.
The seat of the family is Badminton House close to Chipping Sodbury in the Gloucestershire.
