Duke of Beaufort
The title of duke of Beaufort was carried at the same time in the French nobility and the English nobility.

July 6th 1597, Gabrielle d' Estrée, marchioness of Heaps, mistress of the king Henri IV, acquired duchess of Own way, heiress of the Maison of Foix, the county of Beaufort and all its dependences.Henri IV joins together the county of Beaufort to the baronnie of Jaucourt and set up them in duchy-peerage in favor of César de Bourbon, duke of Vendôme, his natural son.

1597 - 1665: César of Bourbon-Vendôme (1594 - 1665), 1st duke of Vendôme, 1st duke of Beaufort;
- 1665 - 1669: François of Bourbon-Vendôme (1616 - 1669), 2nd duke of Beaufort;
- 1669 - 1688: Louis Joseph of Bourbon-Vendôme (1654 - 1712), 3rd duke of Vendôme, 3rd duke of Beaufort.
In 1688, the duchy was sold for 460.000 books by the third duke with Charles Ier Frederic of Montmorency-Luxembourg (1662 - 1726), which was created the same year duke of Beaufort (not par). The duchy was renamed “duchy of Montmorency” by letters patent of October 1689.
