Duke Nukem Forever
Duke Nukem Forever is a Jeu of subjective shooting (FPS) developed by 3D Realms and the next episode of the series of the Duke Nukem. It is famous for its prolonged development, which began in January 1997. It is one of longest the Vaporware S.
The play changed several times of engine during its development. At the beginning, in 1997, it was envisaged with the engine of Quake II , then passed in 1998 to the Unreal Engine, which obliged the developers to start again the work of zéro.
Le group of metal Megadeth was then invited to record the music of the play (which appears on the Japanese version of the album Risk ), but Duke Nukem Forever still does not see the day in spite of the vidéos presented with the E3 in 2001. In 2002, they set out again once again of nothing. All becomes fuzzier as from this moment. It is known that in September 2004, 3D Realms chose a new physical engine, the Meqon which seems to be of an excellent quality (possibility of destroying a wall brick by brick).
In January 2007, an advertisement of position of power within the framework of the development of Duke Nukem 3D made its appearance on the site of Gamasutra. About the contents of the news of advances of the play on this same site, Joe Siegler, webmaster for 3D Realms, specified that the play always remained on a graphic engine based of that of Unreal.
In short, one does not know when Duke Nukem Forever leaves. Certain fans have always awaited it for more than 10 years.
Others, more pessimistic, think that this play will never leave. The attitude of the developers, answering since years “when it' S gives” (when it is finished) to the question “When it leaves”, is not for nothing in this pessimism. It became a joke of schoolkid to push back a drudgery by saying " I will do that when Duke Nukem forever leaves! ".
Let us note however that 3D Realms takes with humor and philosophy the delay of the play. One can thus see on their site celebrates it quotation: " And yes, we know the range has taken has long time. There' S No possible joke you could make butt the game' S development time that we haven' T already heard. :)". Translation: " And yes, we know that the play takes much time to leave. There is no possible joke that you can make about the duration of the development of the play which we did not already hear. :)"
A light hope persists nevertheless from the recent exit of Prey, another leading product of 3D Realms which experienced a development quite as chaotic since 1997. This completed project, many fans hope that maintaining the company will concentrate at 100% on the project Duke Nukem. To date, only a new image hardly larger than a postage stamp left during this year 2007. Wired News decreed several times its Vaporware Awards with Duke Nukem Forever . The play arrived second in 2000, and top of the list in 2001 and 2002. Wired News created the Vaporware Lifetime Achievement Award exclusively for Forever and in 2003 decreed it. In 2004, the play was not listed by Wired , because the Lifetime Achievement Award had been decreed to release the chief candidate. However, at the request of the readers, Wired changed opinion and Forever gained the 1st place in 2005 and 2006.
