Duke Nukem (video game)
Duke Nukem is a Video game of action/platform, developed by Apogee Software, left on PC in 1991.
Duke Nukem begins its adventures in this video game.
Presentation
Dr. Proton, a scientific brilliance, works on a new generation of robots: techbots. After an accident, it is seriously irradiated and becomes insane. It manufactures its own cybernetic army then and is at the head put to conquer the world.
The CIA engages the hero, Duke Nukem, to stop it. Released above the ruins of a big city devastated by the army of Proton, it tries to cut through a path. The play is thus divided into 3 episodes:
-
Shrapnel City : where Duke progresses in the ruins of the city, with the research of the secret factory of Proton.
- Mission: Moonbase : Proton took refuge in its lunar base.
- Trapped in the future! : After a new defeat, Proton decides to travel in the future to build more powerful techbots.
For its time, Duke Nukem is a successful play of platform, proposer of many environments, very good graphics (always for the time!) and of the action permanently. The topics, the style of the dialogs and the type of character points out the American data bases of science fiction of the Seventies, which probably had to bathe the childhood of the originators…

“Duke Nukem” or “Duke Nukum”?
It is noticed that the name of the play changes according to the version of the play. The original writing of the name was “Duke Nukem”; however, during the update of the play (version 1.0) towards version 2.0 already, Apogee found a character named “Duke Nukem”, whose name seemed to be deposited (law of the Copyright). Therefore, for version 2.0 of play, the name was changed into “Duke Nukum”. Then, during the programming of the play Duke Nukem 2 , they discovered that this character was not subjected to the Copyright. “Duke Nukum” thus became again “Duke Nukem”.
