Dugny

City of the Seine-Saint-Denis. Most of the city was destroyed during the Second world war.

History

Its name comes from the Gallo-Roman duniacom who means “field of the winner”.

Origins

The first appearance of Dugny in the historical documents goes back to 832, but the parish could be of origin mérovingienne.

In 1119, prieuyré of Saint-Martin-of-Fields has the church of Dugny as well as mills.

In 1790, Dugny separates from the Le Bourget to become an autonomous commune.

Cereal agriculture dominates the economomic activity of the commune, but one notes a factory for the manufacture of the colors and varnished, occupying 50 workmen and a factory of pins out of wooden for launderers, occupying 10 workmen. This factory is located in the old mill Cretté de Palluel .

A mill with flour, known as the Large Mill , located all at the end of the country, street Cretté de Palluel, is actuated by hydrolic energy and with a steam engine. With its 7 paid, it can grind up to 1.000 quintals of flour per day.

The war of 1914-1918 and the creation of the aerodrome

During the First World War, the grounds located between Le Bourget and Dugny are expropriés by the Army, and an air military base is installed there.

Inter-war period

The military aerodrome opens with the civil traffic: August 18th, 1918, the Minister for the Stations inaugurates the first air postal connection carried out by the Houssais adjudant and the sergeant Van Caudenberg between Dugny it Le Bourget and Saint-Nazaire, and a first air terminal is open.

Entirely not completed to accommodate the first visitors of the Exposure in June, the air terminal will be officially inaugurated on November 12th, 1937.

In 1939, Le Bourget, with 21.000 movements of planes and 138.000 passengers, is the second airport of Europe behind that of Berlin-Tempelhof. Seriously damaged during the second world war, it is rebuilt with identical, and is used as civil airport of Paris until the years 1970.

The second world war and destruction of Dugny

The aerodrome, become a German air base, sudden of important German, English bombardments and American between 1940 and 1943. That of June 3rd, 1940, carried out by German aviation, damages the quarter of the dwellings of the Commune, and that of August 16th, 1943, intended to destroy the airport, shaves the commune. The whole of the bombardments will have destroyed to 90% the commune, which will be decorated with the Military Cross with palm on November 11th, 1948.

The rebuilding

As a fébrier 1946, the architect Louis Kehr and the Co-operative of rebuilding directed by François Larivière and Rene Verrier establish a plan of installation and rebuilding of the commune, but the authorities hesitate to rebuild Dugny. The fight of the inhabitants and the municipality makes it possible Dugny to reappear in 1951.

In 1952 is built the Town hall and the municipality carries out the nursery school Irene-and-Frederic-Joliot-Curie and a provisional school, baptized Victor-Hugo. In 1971 will be inaugurated the Saint-Denis church.

Geography

The territory of the commune is primarily occupied by the Aéroport of Le Bourget (200 hectares), 100 hectares for the departmental Parc of Courneuve, 20 hectares with the army (Barracks of pink) and only 80 hectares are available for the agglomeration.

Hydrology

The commune is located in a marshy plain , probably consisted an old dead arm of the Marne, and is bathed by many small rivers which for the near total tubes and were buried during the 20th century.

the Croult takes its source in Thillay, crosses Dugny on an extent of 1.580 meters and is thrown in the the Seine, with Saint-Denis.

Rouillon is a river made with hand of man, supplied with a hydrant in the Croult, said " the Provendier" Hole; , located immediately before the large mill of Dugny. This river, after having crossed the commune on an extent of 950 meters, will be thrown in the Croult, with Saint-Denis.

the Moleret occurs with Rosny-sous-Bois, receives the sewers of this commune, enters on the territory of Bondy, where it receives the sewer of the trunk road n° 3 and the draining canal of the roadway system of Bondy, then crosses the territory of Le Bourget where it receives the sewer of the trunk road n° 2. From the crossing of this road in Le Bourget, Moleret takes the name of the Serrated roller.

This brook crosses the territory of Le Bourget, form limiting between the communes of Courneuve and of Dugny and throws itself in Rouillon, between the small mill of Dugny and the new mill of Stains , after having passed under the Croult and over the Vieille Sea.

It crosses the commune on an extent of 2.400 meters.

the Ru of the Room takes its source with the Fountain with the Priests, Garges-lès-Gonesse, and is thrown in the Rouillon , with 200 meters downstream from the small mill of Dugny , after having crossed the commune over a 1.100 meters length.

The Ru of Small-Water takes its source in the department of Seine-et-Oise and is thrown in Rouillon. Its length, very whole on Dugny, is of 950 meters.

the Ru of the Vieille Sea takes its source with Dugny, with the place known as " the Wood of Brouillards" , passes under the Croult and under the Serrated roller and is thrown in the Croult, with Saint-Denis. Its length, in the cross-piece of the commune, is of 750 meters.

the Ru of Busine occurs to the source of Busine and is thrown in the Vieille Sea. Its length is of 600 meters.

the Ru of Provendiers occurs to the source of Provendiers and is thrown in the Vieille Sea, after having traversed 400 meters on Dugny.

the Morée takes its source in Tremblay (Seine-et-Oise) and is thrown in the Croult, in Dugny, 150 meters downstream from the mill Cretté de Palluel . Its length in the cross-piece of Dugny is of 2.600 meters.
