The duck-with-bump bronzed or helmeted duck ( Sarkidiornis melanotos ) is a Canard of the family of the Anatidé S connected with the Tadorne S.
Description
This large Duck measurement between 56 and 76 cm, the head and the top of the neck are white dotted lines of black, the bottom of the neck and the belly is white, the sides are gray or black according to the subspecies and the top of the body is black with blue, green reflections and bronzes. The male has moreover a black caruncle on the nozzle.
Habitat
This species meets in America south tropical (mainly in the Amazonian basin), in sub-Saharan Africa including Madagascar, in India and in the south-east of the Asia. The duck with bump is a bird of the lakes and marshes of the areas slightly wooded. There migrates at distances long but remains tropical zone.
Biology
It is a sociable species which lives in groups of about thirty birds. The reproduction takes place during the rain season, the males are coupled sometimes with several females. The nest is generally placed in a hole of tree. This species is nourished while grazing or while splashing, the duck with bump pole frequently in the trees.
Populations
The population lies between 190.000 and 730.000 individuals, the species is not threatened.Sarkidiornis melanotos is only the species kind Sarkidiornis .
