Ducati Monster

It is a range of Moto of the manufacturer Italy N Ducati of the type Roadster. Called Monster , it also carried of the name Mostro before the repurchase by Texas Pacific Group in 1998.

History

The first model of Mostro appeared fine 1992. Its stripped esthetics is the work of Miguel Angel Galuzzi. The objective of Cagiva (then owner of the mark) was to propose a motor bike designed before very for the pleasure, able to distill feelings the sporting ones but without the disadvantages (the fragile Carénage in the event of fall, the not very comfortable position of control).
It raises a very stripped look, emphasizing the tallies and the engine. The only tolerated accessory is the small change-wind on certain models.

The popular belief wants that it is the Cagiva importer in France of the time, the SIMA, and its director Marcel Seurat who gave the idea to Galuzzi. Indeed, in order to make known its company, it decided to engage a machine with the Enduro of Touquet of 1991, to make the holeshot, i.e. to arrive at the head at the end of the beach, after the departure. This machine, Cagiva of Enduro with a twin-cylinder of 900 Ducati and a tubular framework lattice, makes a success of its bet, but gave up with the following turn. Nevertheless, the objective was achieved. Marcel Seurat decided to make run this machine in Supermotard.
Whereas it would have come to attend the last race of the season, Galuzzi would have been interested in this machine and would have discussed longement with its concepteurs.
Galuzzi is defended some and said to have drawn its inspiration in the sporting motor bikes broken and stripped of their careenage, which was not replaced fault of financial means, on which it rolled when it lived with the the United States.

Mostro was also used as mounting to the heroes in some films. Vincent Perez overlaps M900 Carbone in The Crow 2: the City of the Angels. Halle Berry, alias Catwoman assembles M996 S 4R in the film éponyme. Jamie Lee Curtis is momentary of M600 in Freaky Friday

Description of the models

Its equipment is of quality with the braking entrusted to Semc-Brembo, the suspensions with Sachs, Showa or Öhlins and the framework borrowed from the Superbike (851 and 888) of the mark until in 2001. The Moteur is a Moteur pantah resulting from the range Supersport. Nevertheless, Monster S4, S 4R and S4Rs take again respectively the engines of Superbike 916, 996 and 999.

First Mostro marketing was the M900. One year later, a more accessible version joined it, the M600. The M400, reserved for the market Japan board and some Italian, and the M750 appear only in 1996.
After the repurchase by the American pension fund Texas Pacific Group, Mostro “américanise” and becomes Monster, always into 400,600,750 and 900.
With the wire of time, the range will be supplemented with the appearance of the M620, M695, M800, M916, M996, M999 and M1000.

The living room of Milan of November 2007 presents a turning in the Monster range. Ducati presents the M696. This new machine present of the important esthetic changes which, even if they do not make vary the general pace, moves away from the lines of first Mostro which only had evolved/moved very little in its various variations.
