Ducati 916

The 916 is a sporting motor bike built by Ducati of the desmoquattro family.

Appeared in 1994, the 916 is replacing it of the 888. Aesthetically, it slices singularly with its devancière, the look at the same time more harmonious and more aggressive being the work of Massimo Tamburini. One notices its will monobras back, developed with the service competition of Cagiva, the CRC, and his two exhausts under the saddle.

The engine is a twin-cylinder out of V open to 90° of 916 cm ³, four times, with ordering of distribution Desmodromique. It uses cylinder heads to four Soupape S (from where the name of desmoquattro). It is also fed by an electronic injection. The Embrayage is, of course, dry. The whole is inserted within a tubular framework lattice. Braking is entrusted to Brembo with a double disc before 320 mm and a simple back disc 220 mms in diameter.

Thought as well for the road as for the track, the 916 uses an adjustable steering column in slope.

It was available in version monoposto or biposto starting from 1995.

Its production stops in 1998. Ducati having been resold with the American pension fund Texas Pacific Group, its replacing within the mark is not ready. The factory thus makes gently evolve/move the 916 in 996.

916 Strada

It uses Showa suspensions. The engine develops 109 horses. A Senna version appears in 1995, the Castiglioni brothers having decided to pay earlier homage to their friend Ayrton Senna dead one year. The pilot had also contributed his share as tester of luxury for Ducati to the exit of the 916.
The motor bike is one 916 Strada monoposto on which one grafted parts of body, the hanging devices of the SP and exhaust boxes Termignoni. It raises red rims with a black careenage for the models 95 and 98, gray metallized for the models 97.

The 916 SP

On the 916 SP, the injection uses two injectors when there is only one of them on the Strada version. The engine develops 126 horses. The back suspension comes from Öhlins.

The 916 SPS

The SPS replaces the SP in 1997. The cubic capacity passes to 996 cm ³, with an increase in the power of 8 horses.
