Duathlon

The duathlon (not to be confused with the Biathlon) is an sports activity combining a test of Race on foot followed by a test of Cyclisme then of a last sleeve of race on foot, the whole in the same spirit as the Triathlon. The distances covered can vary according to the age and from the level of the participants as well as organizer of the event. It is the International Triathlon Union () which manages this sport with the international level. Currently, the duathlon was not declared yet Olympic sport.

Until now, largest duathlon in the world was that of London. The oldest duathlon and still regularly organized is that of the club of triathlon (Official site) of New York, the United States, it is held in and around the city.

Thanks to the growing popularity of the extreme sports, a new form of duathlon developed these last years. It is about a duathlon practiced elsewhere than on road, or " Dirty-Of the " (translated into " duathlon sale" in French, or " duathlon vert"), it comprises a race on ways or a Trail, followed by a test of VTT then again a race on ways or a trail.

Clubs

The first local club only dedicated to the practice of the duathlon, " Austin Duathletes" (or " duathlètes of Austin"), was created with Austin, Texas, the United States in 2004.

Publications

The first and single magazine multisport dedicated only to the duathlon, Duathlete Magazine, were created by Shane Nelson with Knoxville, Tennessee, the United States in 2005.

Duathlon of snows

The duathlon of snows is a kind of Triathlon of snows under development, it includes race on foot, Ski touring and again of the race on foot. In 2007, many people whose chain multisport Chanel Multisport try to develop the triathlon of snows by encouraging more people to take part in the hope than it will be an official test with the Winter Olympics in 2010.

Another type of duathlon is the ski touring, the participants leaves all at the same time and traverses a certain distance (15 km for the men, 7,5 km for the women), they change skis, sticks and shoes in a stand in the same way as the cars of Formule 1 or of NASCAR, they traverse then same distance (15 km for the men, 7,5 km for the women) into free. Gaining is that which passes the finishing line the first. This test appeared for the first time at the Winter Olympics of 2006, it is called Double Continuation.

In France

It is the French federation of Triathlon (F.F.Tri) which manages the duathlon. There exists a championship of France for the young people since 2004, a championship of France CD (Short distance: 10 km + 40 km + 5 km) since 1992 and a championship LD (Long distance: 10 km + 60 km + 10 km) since 2006. The French athlete in activity more titrated is Nicolas Lebrun with 4 championships of France short distance (1996, 1998,1999 and 2004) and 3 podiums with the championships of the World of the speciality (bronze medal in 1997 and 2004 and money medal-holder in 1998).
