Duarte Lobo
Duarte Lobo (born v. 1565 with Alcáçovas and dead on September 24th 1646 with Lisbon) was a Portuguese type-setter of the end of the Renaissance to the premises of the baroque. He is the Portuguese type-setter most known of his time. At the sides of Filipe de Magalhães, of Manual Cardoso and João IV, King of Portugal, it represents l'" Age of or" Portuguese Polyphony.
Biography
He was the pupil of Manuel Mendes at the school of Évora. He obtained its first station as choirmaster of the cathedral of Évora, before becoming choirmaster to the cathedral of Lisbon in 1594.Although contemporary of the birth of the era baroque, Lobo still uses the techniques of the Rebirth in his compositions, proving the influence of Palestrina and his distance of the Italian or German discoveries. Lobo published six books of sacred music.
