Drop

The Baïse is a river south of the France.

Geography

It takes its source on the Plateau of Lannemezan towards Capvern-the-Baths, in the Hautes-Pyrénées (65), and is thrown in the the Garonne with Saint-Leger, slightly upstream of the junction between the Lot and the Garonne.

The hydronyme Baïse would be of pre-indo-European origin, derived from basco-Aquitanian the ibaia (river, river).

Hydrography

In period of low water level, its course is maintained for the Irrigation and the needs for supply Drinking water and Salubrité by the Canal of Neste.

Currently navigable only in its downstream part between Valence-on-Drops and its Confluence with the Garonne, it was in navigable time until Saint-Jean-Poutge. It communicates with the Canal of the Garonne to Buzet-on-Lowers by a double lock.
