Drome of Provence

The Drome of Provence is a natural and tourist area department of the Drome, and which occupies the southern third roughly of them. It bears this name because of its proximity so much geographical (climate and cultures) that cultural (habitat, language, habits) with the close Provence (Vaucluse and High-Provence).

Geography

Drome of Provence extends from the Préalpes Baronnies with the Vallée of the Rhone. It is established on various small solid masses (Barronies, Montagnes of Bluye, Peitieux, the Lance, St-Maurice), valleys (Lez, Ouvèze, Eygues, Jabron, Roubion, Méouge) and plain (Tricastin), and its altitude varies thus 50m with Pierrelatte, with more 1500m in south-east of the department.

The Tricastin and the Baronnies belong to Drome of Provence.

Population

The population concentrates in the valley of the Rhone, Tricastin and the valleys: Montélimar, Pierrelatte, Saint-Paul-Three-Castles, Donzère, Dieulefit, Grignan, Taulignan, Nyons, Suze-the-Russet-red). In certain villages of the highland, the population does not exceed the twenty inhabitants (1 inhabitant with Rochefourchat).

Agriculture

Agriculture is of Mediterranean type: olive-trees, corn, vines. The caprine breeding is present (cheese Picodon).

The plain is well served: By A7 (left 19: Bollène/Nyons and left 18: Montélimar-Sud/Donzère/Dieulefit) By the TGV the Mediterranean (Valence)

Cities

The main cities are Montélimar, Pierrelatte, Nyons and Dieulefit.
