Drip of Gold

The Goutte of Gold is a district being located in the north of Paris, in the 18 {{E}} district, delimited schematically by the Barbès boulevard, the boulevard of the Vault, the ways of the Gare of North and the street Ordener. It counts approximately 20.000 inhabitants.

This district, located at the east of the Hillock Montmartre, is one of most cosmopolitan capital, the proportion of the immigrant population, in fall since the years 1980, is in the neighborhoods of 30% (against about 17,5% for all the town of Paris): it is in particular a great appointment for the Maghrebian and African populations sub-Saharan of the area. It is famous for its market, the Barbès market, in lower part of the elevated railway. Moreover, many festivals and meals are organized in order to join together the population and to create an good atmosphere there. Housing starting to be decayed, a vast plan of rehabilitation of the district began in 1983 with the destruction of more than 100 buildings to date, for more than 800 residences (and not buildings) social frames to date. The project is always in hand, even if it strongly slowed down these last years. All the problems are however not solved like shows it to us the riots at the beginning of 2005, following a police bur in the district (not to be confused with the general riots of the suburbs in November 2005). Moreover the district is known for its drug trafficking in particular of the ace.

This district was always popular quarters (at least during XIXe and XXe centuries). He was sung by Aristide Bruant in his song With the Gold goutt'.

It is after the visit into 1991 of Alain Juppe and Jacques Chirac in this district that the latter declared its famous sentence on " noise and the odeur".
