Driouch

Driouch (rear RTL ادريوش) is a city located at 60 km in the western south of the town of Nador, in the area of Rif (Morocco), its population is of the 28.000 inhabitants whose majority of them is Berber but with a strong presence of Arabic, most are Beni Oukil. During these last decades, the immigration of the east of Morocco towards the area réfaine of the province of Nador changed the demographic aspect of Driouch considerably

History

Historically, Driouch was known for the importance of its part which he played at the time of the war front (1921 to 1926) and against the Spanish occupation, under the command of the revolutionary chief the Emir Mohammed Ben Abdelkrim Al-Jattabi, first and certainly it last president of the Confederal Republic of Rif, before its annexation with Morocco in 1926. The Spanish presence with Driouch can currently still be observed. The old Spanish market, the Catholic church " Al kanisa" , the Spanish Convent, the bridge of the river " oued" Kerd, the old central park, etc…, points out the Spanish past of the city.

Driouch put forward in 1975 to hundreds of Moroccan refugees expelled by the government of the Algérie at the time the crisis of the the Sahara Occidental, its majority lives the popular quarters Qishla.
