Dred Scott

Dred Scott is a slave Afro-American born in 1795 in Virginia and dead the September 17th 1858. It is a figure of the anti-slave system.

Dred Scott was born in slavery, it knows several owners during his youth of which a doctor of the army. This one buys another named slave Harriet that Dred Scott marries with the agreement of Emerson.

With died of Emerson, the couple becomes the property of his/her sister who refuses to them freedom in spite of the prohibition of slavery in the Illinois where they live at that time. Dred Scott brings an legal action against their mistress. The judgment lasts eleven years. In 1857, after several bounces, the Supreme court of the United States refuses their freedom with Dred and Harriet Scott in spite of the support of many personality of the states of north. Finally, they were returned to their first owner who granted their freedom to them little time before the death of Dred.

This saga legal constituted a victory Southerner in their fight for the maintenance of slavery.
