Dramatis personae
Dramatis personae is a Latin expression meaning “characters drama”.
Dramatis personae is also the expression used to indicate the list of the names of roles which appears in the beginning of a printed part.
In ancient Greece and in parts of Molière for example (as well as in the majority of the parts of the traditional theater) the names are enumerated by hierarchical order, the gods with the top, the peasants in bottom. The female characters are placed below the masculines.
Nowadays it is more usual to give a list in the order of appearance on stage with sometimes the name of the actors having created the role or, on a program of theater, alphabetically of the Acteur S.
