With the Cinema, the drama is a cinematographic Genre which treats generally non-epic situations in a serious context, on a tone more likely to inspire sadness than the laughter. It recently regained popularity in much country of the world. Generally, a drama rests on a Scénario approaching with less possible humor a difficult topic (the Mort, the Misère, the Viol, the Toxicomanie…) who can be painful, revolting, an injustice; it can be inspired in particular by the Histoire (with topics like the Shoah) or by the Actualité. However, one should not confuse the drama with the Tragédie - which almost does not exist with the cinema, if one exepte of the adaptations of novels or plays, which always finish by the death of at least one of the main characters ( Romeo and Juliette , Notre-Dame de Paris …).
