Dragon\' S Lair

Dragon' S Lair ( the Den of the dragon ) is a Video game of adventure - action developed by Advanced Microcomputer Systems and manufactured by Cinematronics in 1983 on Borne of arcade. It is an interactive fiction in the form of Cartoon pointing out those of Disney. It was in particular carried out by Don Bluth, an old organizer at Disney. Dragon' S Lair is one of the first plays has to use the Laserdisc like memory support.

Development

Dragon' S Lair was created starting from a concept of Rick Dyer, president of Advanced Microcomputer Systems. A team of originators of play created the characters and the decorations, then have choreography the movements of Dirk at the time of her meetings with the existing monsters and obstacles in the Château. The department of art of AMS then created story-boards for each episode which were used as guide for final animation.

The play was animated by Don Bluth, stimulating veteran of the studios Disney. The development was carried out for a reasonable budget of 1 million US dollars and asked for seven months of work. As the studio by its limited resources could not pay a model, the organizers used photographs of the magazine Playboy to carry out the character of the Daphne princess in particular. The organizers also used their own voices to do without the services of actors for the linings and thus reducing costs.

Version laserdisc

The original readers of Laserdisc provided with the play (Pioneer LD-V1000 or PR-7820) often dysfonctionné under the constraint imposed by the play (the reader jumps certain tracks who should be played after the action of the player). The reader himself was of good quality, but was simply not designed to undergo the constraints imposed by the play. The fact that the game popular and was played for long periods without interruption did not help in this direction. By consequence, the reader of laserdisc often had to be repaired or replaced.

It is rare to find the play original Dragon' S Lair with the original reader in perfect state. A kit is available to make it possible to replace the rather fragile Pioneer reader by a modern reader of laserdisc of the series Sony LDP.
