Lottery of the draft 2006
The lottery 2006 took place the May 23rd 2006 with Secaucus, New Jersey. At the time of the draft, the 14 teams which did not qualify themselves for the play-offs 2006 are selected for the first 14 choices of the draft in the inverse order of their classification in regular season excluded for the three first, which are selected by the lottery. Statistically, the team with the worst assessment with the best chance to have the first choice, the team with the second worse assessment has the second choice and so on. After the list of the first three choices, the 27 other first choices of the draft are assigned with the other teams: the choices number 4 to 14 are assigned with the other teams not-qualified in play-offs (only these teams take part in the lottery for the first three choices) in the inverse order of their assessment, and choices 15 to 30 are assigned with the remainder of teams NBA, in the opposite odre (thus, the team with the best assessment will have the 30e choice). The second round also consists in choosing 30 players; the teams choose in the inverse order of their assessment at the time of this second turn. The lottery relates to only the first turn; the team with the worst assessment has the first choice with the second turn.
