Draft NBA 1985

The Draft NBA 1985 took place the June 18th 1985. It was the year of the introduction of the lottery. A total of 162 players were selected at the time of 7 turns by the 23 teams of the league. The New York Knicks obtained the first choice, by gaining the first lottery of the draft of the history, which had been held in May of this year. Knicks used this choice to select the star of Georgetown, Patrick Ewing.

Anecdotes

  • the lottery was introduced for the first time at the time of this draft in order to put an end to the system which made that teams voluntarily lost their matches to obtain the first choice of the draft.
  • Arvydas Sabonis did not join " officiellement" the Portland cement Trail Blazers in 1985; it will arrive finally at the time of the draft 1986. He will not play in NBA before 1995.
  • Certains journalists such Bill Simmons affirmed that David Stern had arranged this draft so that the New York Knicks obtain the first choice and become again a competitive frankness.
  • Anthony Jerome " Spud" Webb was the smallest player (1m70) with dunker in NBA. HE is also the smallest player to have gained NBA Slam Dunk Contest
