Dracunculus vulgaris

Dracunculus vulgaris is a species of plant of the family of the Araceae , near to the kind Arum .

Called arum serpent eater, dragon arum in English, it is a fairly rustic species of Mediterranean origin, has digitées sheets. He presents at the end of spring a spectacular inflorescence purple dark. It should not be planted too much close to the house because it spreads a strong rotting meat odor.

It is also called common Serpentaire, Petit common dragon or Gouet serpent eater.
