Dover is an American city county of Strafford, of which it is the chief town, State of the New Hampshire, on bank of the Rivière Piscataqua. Dover is the oldest city of the State and the seventh of the country. The Amerindian S Abénaquis called the Wecohamet place. The settlement of the area begins in 1623 and the locality, initially called Hilton' S Point, receives its name in 1637 of the governor of then, the reverend George Burdett. In 1639, it is renamed Northam, before taking again its name of origin. It is built-in as a city in 1855. Nowadays, it is called The Garrison City .
