Douro (under-area)

The Douro - in Portuguese: Douro - is one of the 30 statistical under-areas of the Portugal.

With 7 other under-areas, it forms the Northern area.

Geography

Douro draws its name from the river Douro.

Douro is bordering:

  • in north, of the Haut Trás-bone-Assemble,
  • in the east, of the Spain,
  • in the south, of the Northern Beira interior and the Dão-Lafões,
  • in the west, of the Tâmega.

  • Population density: 53,95 hab./km²

Demography

Between a fifth and a quarter of the population of the under-area is concentrated in the municipality of Vila Real, on a territory which represents less tenth of the surface of the under-area.
