Douglas A-26 Invader

Design

The Douglas A-26 Invader corresponds to a specification of 1940 of the USAAF concerning a light bomber which can as well intervene at low altitude for a corrosion as for a precise bombardment with average altitude. In order to ensure its defense without hunter of escort, A-26 must be at the same time well armed and fast.

The prototype, named XA-26 accomplishes its first flight in July 1942. It takes again the structure of the A-20 Havoc, its predecessor.

Engagements

A-26 was used on all the theaters of operation of the Second world war by USAAF, as well in the Pacifique as in Europe.

From its characteristics, A-26 is the apparatus par excellence forces Tactique S. Aussi, in Europe, one finds it in the 9th USAAF on ETO and in the 12th USAAF on MTO.

In the Peaceful , it is useful within the 5th USAAF and 7th USAAF.

It was also used by the French air force during the Guerre of Indo-China, where it operated in supports forces on the ground.
