Doug Yule

Doug Yule (born the February 25th 1947 with the the United States) is a musician, in particular member of the Velvet Underground of 1968 to 1973.

Beginnings

Doug Yule began the music in the middle of the Années 1960, with Boston. With his friends Walter Powers and Willie Alexander, it then has its own group, The Grass Menagerie. One will in addition find Walter and Willie at the end of Velvet Underground.

The Velvet years

Recruited in 1968 by Lou Reed to replace John Cale, Doug Yule corresponded better to the new orientation that Lou Reed wished to give to Velvet Underground: musician solid and general-purpose (guitar, low, organ), equipped with a discrete personality and a soft and mélodieuse voice, Doug Yule took part in the recording of two albums and the majority of the pieces being reproduced on two compilations of new pieces of Velvet Underground.

After the departure of Lou Reed in 1970, Doug Yule takes the direction of the group, constant in that by the manager of Velvet Underground Steve Sesnick. After a round in Europe and the recording of an album under the name of the group in 1972, Squeeze, Doug Yule, gradually given up by the last two members of origin of the group and by Steve Sesnick, gives up definitively Velvet Underground in 1973.

The Squeeze album is generally regarded as an authentic album of Velvet Underground, none the founding members of the group not having taken part in its composition nor with its recording (it was never republished besides out of CD). If it does not have the typical sound besides of it, there does not remain about it less one very honourable album of Rock' roll. Many pieces can evoke certain titles of the ultimate album of Velvet Underground, Loaded.

Passably forgotten, Doug Yule was not invited to take part in the concerts of reformation of Velvet Underground in 1993, nor moreover with the ceremony of establishment of the group to the Rock' Roll Hall off Famed.

After Velvet Underground

Initially, Yule and its guitar will be present on the album of Lou Reed Sally Can' T Dance , as on the round which follows. It will turn then with his brother Billy (who was occasionally beater within Velvet Underground), then will found a new group, American Flyer. In the same time, he collaborates with Elliott Murphy.

Between 1977 and 1995, it withdraws public life to be devoted to the cabinet work. It grants then interviews in connection with Sterling Morrison, recently deceased, undertakes studies of violin and records a new song. In 2000, it launches out in a round in solo, and publishes an album live, Live in Seattle .

He lives now in New York, where he manufactures violins. In 2006, one could see it on scene at the time of some dates with The Weisstronauts.
