Douaire

The douaire finds its origin in the Morgengabe, but whereas the morgengabe is a freehold, the douaire is the usufruct of the goods or a portion of the goods of the husband deceased. It is the wife who enjoys the douaire.

Term of old right indicating the portion of the goods that a aristocrat reserve to his wife for the case where this one would survive to him.
