Dosso Dossi

Dosso Dossi , of its true name Giovanni di Niccolò Luteri (1490 with Mantoue - 1542 with Ferrare) is an Italian painter of the school of Ferrare.

Formed in the workshop of Giorgione, he becomes painter of the court of the duke Alphonse d' Este in Ferrare in 1514. He takes part in the activities of decoration of Bellini and Titien. He carries out also retables, including one imposing polyptyque preserved at the national art gallery of Ferrare.

Inspired by Venetian art, Dosso Dossi is regarded as the principal one representing school ferraraise, corresponding in painting of Arioste in literature.
