Dormans

Dormans is a common French, located in the department of the Marne and the area Champagne-Ardenne.

Its inhabitants is called the Dormanistes .

Geography

Dormans is located in the valley of the Marne at the border between the Marne and the Aisne, at approximately 30 km of Rheims and 25 km of Épernay, on RN3, near the exit Dormans of the highway A4. Dormans is served by a line the SNCF (see Gare of Dormans).

Monuments

  • the Mémorial of the battles of the Marne was built between 1921 and 1931, in the park of the castle of Dormans, to commemorate both battles of the Marne, of September 1914 and July 1918. The site was chosen by the Foch Marshal who declared it like " the synthétique' place from these two batailles".
The memorial was designed by the architect Mr. Marcel and was carried out by the architect Georges Alexandre Closson. They are in fact two superimposed vaults, the lower vault forming a Crypte. On its wing, a cloister bearing the name of the armies and the officers of the First World War carries out to an ossuary close which a Lanterne of dead the day before on the victims of the battles of the Marne.
