Dorlisheim

Dorlisheim is a common French, located in the department of the the Low-Rhine and the area Alsace.

Geography

In the middle of the Alsace, Dorlisheim is located at the entry of the valley of the Bruche, with crossed axes connecting Sélestat to Saverne and Strasbourg with Saint-Dié.

History

In the year 735, the village, which named “Dorolsham”, was under the dependence of the abbey of Murbach. It will remain there until in 1068.

This name can come from the lake which was on the road while going to Mutzig. It was called “Dorros”. Dorlisheim would be thus “the place close to the lake”.

The etymological analysis also emphasizes the origin of Thorohoze , the name of Thor, Germanic god of the war and Holz wood. This could result in reading “place close to the forest of Thor”.

The agglomeration was destroyed in 1262 by the Of Strasbourg one and in 1592 by the Lorraine ones. In 1632, the doors are shaven by the troops of the general Autrichien Montecuculi.

During the War Thirty Year old, miseries accumulate. After 1648, an epidemic of Plague Dorlisheim devastation, which only 30 inhabitants survive.

At the time of the Reform, Dorlisheim passes to Protestantism as of 1523. And in 1544, it has a school directed by Pasteur.

During the wars of religion, Pasteur was hung at the place called “Gallie Platz” what wants to say “place of the bracket”.

In 1779 the village bore the name of Dorrotzheim.
